How far out should I order my custom illustration project?

Ideally, as soon as you’ve decided you’d like to move forward with a project, I would send a contact email or fill out a project booking form. I can be booked out up to 2-3 months depending on the time of year. Planning project together is exciting and I love creating something special for you!

May I purchase digital files of your work?

All custom artwork that has been commissioned by the client has the option to purchase the use of digital files. These files cannot be resold in any form-they are for personal use only, unless it has been discussed and documented prior to the commission starting. MaryGold Tales illustrations that are used for the stationery line, is not available for purchase. All of MaryGold Tales illustrations are owned by MaryGold Tales and is not to be used without documented permission.

Do you ever host open studio days to the public?

My studio is located on my property in Ferndale and it is a busy working studio where I paint watercolor, pack orders and manufacture my stationery line. To meet and discuss future projects we can schedule appointments in studio or at a local coffee shop. I host a small stationery stand that is open seasonally-hours/days will be posted on my website + instagram when to shop in person, it is so much fun to pop by when the stand is open and grab a few goodies!

If I place an online order and want to pick it up locally, what do I do?

Online orders or commissions can be picked up from my studio’s front porch. At check out an option for ‘Local Pick Up’ will be available (if you live in the surrounding zip codes-out of county zip codes are restricted from this option). Once your online order is complete and you choose your pick up date I will contact you with further instructions. Please note if you choose a pick up date and you’re unable to pick up your order that day, your order will remain in the pick up box, orders that are left over 7 days will be brought back into the studio and you may need to reschedule your pick up date.

Do you offer wholesale?

I do! I would love + be honored to be in your shop! You may order directly through me with smaller minimums + free local delivery (if available) or through my Faire site.

Will you donate to my organization or event?

As a small one-woman show I limit my donations to one or two donations a year for educational causes/events for my local schools/non-profits. If you are a Ferndale local + would like to request to be considered please email hello@marygoldtales.com. Please note I do not offer original illustrations or bespoke commissions as donation items, thank you.

Do you share your business or manufacturing process information?

As a person with a very “artist working” brain I have built this small business from learning from my many mistakes + wins! I truly feel what works for MaryGold Tales may not work for you and your business. Everything I make is very small batch and when I do use a third-party vendor or print company I am particular about their work practices and manufacturing process, for that I sometimes pay higher prices-this may or may not align with your practices. I also have invested hundreds of hours (many nights crying on the office floor-ha) figuring out all the ‘quirks’ to running an illustration business. I have also paid other illustrators for their time for a few mentor hours, as I feel their time is important and what they have learned should be respected + honored. This is a part of doing business and continuing education, just as I feel my time should be as well, at this point I don’t offer mentor hours. I encourage you to seek online courses about running an art based business, there are amazing resources out there! Including at your local community college that are non-credit classes, building your brand is about finding what works best for you and your community.
